The personal statement is important because knowing the law, like most other law schools, doesn't actually have the in-person interviews. So your personal statement is a way that we can actually "meet you" so to speak.

So what we tend to look for is something that shows who you are, and why you want to go to law school. So if you can touch on those two bases, it is particularly important for us. Believe it or not, a lot of personal statements that are very similar. People saying how they studied abroad, and how they really found themselves in college, and now they want to go to law school.

But I remember the person who went above and beyond to make their personal statement stand out. So you know, one person was very creative and almost made it like a short story where they were a third person, and really attacking it that way. And it's interesting, and it's creative, and it stood out to me.

It is very important that when you go and you start talking to people who might be your recommenders, to make sure that they, they really do know you and then they're going to write a good letter of recommendation for you. And when you see letters of recommendation that are not over the top, but quite literally that they want nothing more than to see this person succeed. Those also stand out to us.

Even though it might not be exactly you would need to apply to a job, you're applying for Boston. And so that if you can show who you are through the things you've done, make sure that your resume is in some respects, a "roadmap" to where you're going and a good way to stand out though, as far as communications, come visit us. You know, show your interest in that regard.

Come! I give dozens of tours to people who I know are interested in applicants. And it's good to put a face to the name. Sometimes I will actually learn something more about that person I didn't see in their application. So go out of your way to come visit.

One pitfall that people find themselves running into is they put a lot of effort into the essay with me never read it again. Just be sure you go over it a couple of times because it does stand out. And it just shows that maybe you didn't put all the effort into it you should have and you don't want that thing to hold you back. We promise we know how important this is to you. It's important to us. We want the best for our law school, we want the best for you. But when we receive over exuberance from certain people, it stands out sometimes. What you don't want is for someone to say, "I know this person, they were in this class, and I think they'll be pretty good in law school." We want somebody who will tell us why you're going to be an excellent law student and why we have to have you.
